We are pleased and honored to welcome Sean Keough – Managing Director – Head of Investments at Ethiopia Investments Limited as a special guest to the 5th Africa Business Forum on 01 Mar 2017 in Ethiopia. Ethiopia Investments Limited (“EIL”) is a permanent capital vehicle focused on the Ethiopian market. We invest in attractive opportunities across the business life cycle (greenfield to mature), targeting significant ownership stakes to earn top-quartile financial returns. EIL is headquartered in Mauritius with a representative office in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia Investments Limited (EIL) is raising $10 million to establish a permanent capital vehicle focused on investing in private businesses and greenfield opportunities in Ethiopia. As a conglomerate-style operating company, EIL will target significant ownership stakes to earn top-quartile financial returns. As the fastest growing country on the continent, one of the fastest growing economies in the world and with a population of nearly 100 million, Ethiopia is an increasingly attractive destination for institutional investors seeking to deploy capital in Sub-Saharan Africa. Until EIL, this has only been possible via the private equity model, leaving no options for listed equity investors interested in entering the market. Opportunities for investment exist in many large and rapidly growing sectors that include agricultural processing, financial services (such as leasing), real estate, general services, FMCG, and light manufacturing with a focus on value-addition and import substitution. The first three investments will likely be in agricultural processing, capital leasing and in real estate. There are immense opportunities to benefit from the robust Ethiopian private sector via prudent direct investments in existing businesses and through the opportunistic seeding of high potential greenfield projects.
